Steps have been taken to create 100 Wi-Fl zones in the Colombo city as a first step of the island wide programme of providing free Wi-F. By now, the Colombo Municipal Council has initiated setting up 20 Wi-A zones within the city and more than 10 VVi-Fi zones are already running.
This project has been implemented as a concept of the Prime Minister Ranil Wickramaratne. This machine will provide the public an in-built Wi-Fi as they are frequently engaged in browsing the internet in today’s growing technological world. This
would make our city tech friendly and make our public a technologically advanced citizen. In addi-tion, it includes facility for the public to charge their mobile phones while they are on the street and a Trash Can which accommodate 75 cubiclitres of waste at a time.
As the second step, steps are being taken to identify the remaining 80 locations within the city of Colombo. This Project is planned to be implemented in Main, Galle, Kandy and the other cities of Sri Lanka in the near future, according to a press release
